Friday Faff

It’s that time of the week again. Time to rack my brains, to dig deep in the cupboard shelves, to try not to pull a face when something slimy coats my fingers from the bottom of the fridge.

Not that this has ever happened to me.

Aaaaand… our host of unusual suspects vying for a spot in the final dish (wild applause!)!

Especially urgent (i.e. on the brink of extinction) today were: chorizo, cabbage, frozen peas. Does anyone else suffer from a constant overabundance of frozen peas? It’s like a loaves and fishes situation for me. I don’t even like peas.

On the legs of our recent trip to Spain (legs? Feet? What’s the expression?), it felt right to try my hand at paella*. The chorizo seemed to fit. Not sure about everything else.

Chop up some chorizo, onion, cabbage, tomato. Not really picture-worthy.

Locate a pile of (eek) peas.

Set some rice to cook in saffron, paprika, turmeric, stock and white wine.

Add in all the fixins and douse with salt and oil until cooked.

Oh! Then, if inspired, add an egg! (Not really sure it was all too inspired. Jury’s/Philosopher’s still out there.)

Eh?! Que pasa? Paella!

Boil it down until all liquid is evaporated. Enjoy. Smack your lips and gesticulate wildly in your best Spaniard impression. Drink vino until the glass is empty. Buen apetito!

*Now remember, no recipes allowed – far too organized for a faff – and it may also be of note to readers that I have never made paella nor read a single recipe. So no judgment on my final product please. Plenty of judgment on the whole faff endeavour though, if you must.
